Chelsea Milling Company is inviting the community to the second annual National “JIFFY” Mix Day celebration on Thursday, Oct. 1, featuring family activities, games and activities, food trucks, and more from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
National “JIFFY” Mix Day, observed every Oct. 1, became an official observance in 2025. Chelsea Milling Company started right here in Chelsea in 1901, when Harmon S. Holmes founded the flour mill. His daughter-in-law, Mabel White Holmes, developed “JIFFY” biscuit mix in 1930, creating what’s considered the country’s first prepared baking mix. Nearly a century later, Chelsea Milling is still a family-owned local business and a source of Chelsea pride.
“It’s incredibly meaningful to see how ‘JIFFY’ has become part of so many family traditions — especially around the holidays,” said Howard S. Holmes II, President and CEO of Chelsea Milling Company. “We hear stories all the time about spoonbread casseroles at Thanksgiving, kids learning to bake, and generations growing up with our mixes. It’s those stories that make this day so special — and we hope it inspires even more.”

Shop Local, Win “JIFFY”
From Sept. 28–Oct. 1, spend $10 or more at a participating Chelsea retailer to receive a raffle ticket. On Oct. 1, bring your completed ticket to the event and drop it in the raffle box at the prize booth for a chance to win “JIFFY” prizes.
Special Guests & Activities
Roary, the Detroit Lions mascot, and Corny, the “JIFFY” Mix mascot, will be at the event from 5–6 PM for photos and fun.
A Chip Ganassi Racing car driven by Alex Palou, fresh off his fifth NTT IndyCar Series title, will also be on hand.
