‘The Best Chapters Are Still Being Written’: Senior Center Open House on Sept. 9

September is National Senior Center Month, and this year the Chelsea Senior Center is celebrating with a theme that captures what we know about aging: “The Best Chapters Are Still Being Written.” Throughout the month, CSC will be celebrating the stories, experiences, and possibilities that make every chapter of life meaningful.

The celebration kicks off with a Community Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. Whether you’re newly retired, new to Chelsea, looking for ways to connect, or simply curious about what happens at Chelsea Senior Center, stop by to see what your next chapter could look like. All are welcome.

What’s your next chapter? Maybe it’s learning something new, picking up an old hobby, making new friends, getting more active, traveling somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, sharing a skill, or simply finding a place where you feel connected and welcome. At Chelsea Senior Center, there are countless ways to begin, or continue, your next chapter.

“Every person has a story, and we believe there are always more chapters to write,” said Jennifer Smith, Executive Director of Chelsea Senior Center. “Our Open House is a chance for people to step through our doors, explore what we offer, and imagine what might be possible for them. You never know what new interest, friendship, or adventure might be waiting for you.”

At this show-and-tell experience at the CSC Open House, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the center at your own pace and discover something that might inspire your next chapter:

  • Enjoy the music as members jam on harmonica, acoustic guitars, and drums.
  • Take in the creativity on display and discover what you can create through wood carving, stained glass, knitting and crochet, quilting, and more.
  • Chat with players who gather to play Euchre, Mah-jongg, Cribbage, Pinochle, Hand and Foot, Scrabble, Mexican Train, billiards, and pool.
  • Learn more about exercise and movement classes such as strength training, line dancing, square dancing, cardio drumming, yoga, or Tai Chi.
  • Check out pickleball and find out what all the excitement is about.
  • Discover your next adventure with our travel group. Get the scoop on upcoming travel opportunities and share your bucket-list ideas. Your dream trip might inspire the next CSC adventure!
  • Stop by the farm stand for fresh vegetables harvested that day, then take a stroll through the Trinh Pifer Intergenerational Garden.
  • Explore activities that support well-being, such as Cranium Crunchers, which are designed to strengthen cognitive recall.
  • Tour “A Brief Stop,” our adult personal needs pantry.
  • Learn about support groups including the Loss & Healing Group and A Moment for Me: A Caregiver Support Group.
  • Talk with the coordinators of Ease the Day, an adult day program that gives family caregivers some much-needed time to themselves.

“If you’ve been curious about CSC, this is a great time to learn why so many people join us,” said Jon Van Hoek, Assistant Director. “You may be looking for activities now or planning for the future, or maybe you are exploring opportunities for a loved one. No matter where you are in life, we hope you stop by.”

Sometimes, beginning a new chapter starts with simply walking through the door. Find opportunities to share your expertise at CSC. We’d love to hear your ideas for future workshops and presentations. Stop by to discover the many ways you can get involved. Volunteer applications will be available at the Open House.

The best chapters are still being written, and yours could be next. Join us for the Chelsea Senior Center Community Open House to see all that awaits you.
