The Waterloo Area Historical Society will host its annual Pioneer Day on Sunday, Oct. 11, with a look at late-19th-century farm life at the Waterloo Farm Museum in Grass Lake and the Dewey School Museum.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours of the farmhouse and the school are planned, along with live music, sheep shearing, log hewing, a working cider press, baking demonstrations, and demonstrations of traditional crafts, trades, and cooking techniques.
This year, visitors can also step inside the historic farmhouse for a special Victorian Mourning Exhibit. It explores 19th-century customs surrounding death, grief, funerals, mourning attire, and remembrance.
Local vendors will sell goods, and there will be a flower barn, a bake sale, and the museum gift shop. Concessions include Waterloo Bean Soup and pies.
