The Chelsea DDA is hosting a town hall on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chelsea City Council Chambers, 311 S. Main St., to gather community input on proposed changes to the city’s noise ordinance.

What’s proposed
The “12-12-12” amendment stands for 12 months, 12 events, until 12 midnight. The proposed change would:
- Let eligible businesses, property owners, and event sponsors each apply for up to 12 exemption dates a year, plus one bonus date in January
- Extend daytime sound levels until midnight instead of 10 p.m. on approved dates
- Make violations civil infractions instead of misdemeanors
- Shift exemption approval from City Council to the City Manager
The DDA can propose changes, but the Chelsea City Council must review and vote on any revisions to ordinances.
