The Chelsea Police Department issues a weekly summary of incidents reported in the city. The most recent report covers incidents on Sept. 8 and Sept. 9, including:
- A hit-and-run crash in the 100 block of Dewey Street after a driver rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a stop sign and left the scene, turning north onto N. Main Street. Officers tracked down the driver at his address; he admitted to drinking before the crash and could not recall where he had been in town. The Chelsea man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol, then transported to Washtenaw County Jail.
- A court order violation complaint in the 500 block of Coliseum Drive after a woman told police she saw the man named in the order sitting nearby while she was at the location, which she said violated its terms. Officers identified the man, a Dexter resident, and documented the incident. The case was turned over to the investigator for further review.
- An animal welfare check in the 14000 block of E. Old US 12 after a dog was found confined in a pickup truck with only the windows cracked, panting heavily and barking, with no access to water. Officers were unable to locate the owner and removed the dog from the vehicle due to the heat. The owner, a Farwell woman, was later reached by phone. The case was turned over to the investigator, with possible submission to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
