The Chelsea District Library and the Chelsea Area Historical Society are teaming up this weekend for a session on researching your home’s history and to launch the Historical Society’s new Heritage Home program. The program is for adults and runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at KidSpot. Register at chelseadistrictlibrary.org.
Researching the History of Your Home
CDL Librarian Cody will lead a session on using property deeds, plat maps, Sanborn maps, historic newspapers, and other public records to trace a home’s past.
For a preview of one of the tools covered, residents can look up their address on MapWashtenaw, select the “basemaps” option, and see aerial photos of their property dating back to 1940.

Chelsea Heritage Home Program Kickoff
The session also marks the launch of the Chelsea Area Historical Society’s new Heritage Home program, which celebrates Chelsea homes 100 years old or more and is dedicated to preserving their history and educating the community about the importance of researching and preserving these historic properties. Historical Society representatives will be on hand to talk about the program. Questions can go to [email protected].
