North Lake United Methodist Church Marks 190 Years of Ministry

North Lake United Methodist Church marked 190 years of ministry on Sunday, Sept. 20, with an anniversary celebration that honored the church’s deep roots and looked ahead to its future.

Worship brought together members and friends of the congregation, local community leaders, former pastors, and honored guests. The service included special music, a video of historical pictures, and a sermon by Bishop David Bard. He reflected on the church’s calling and encouraged the congregation to “stand firm” as it continues to serve neighbors and the community.

A catered lunch and a time of heartwarming storytelling followed, honoring the people who shaped North Lake through the generations. It was a reminder that the church’s history is about people and their relationships, not just a date on a calendar. Four historical tributes were presented on behalf of the Governor by local elected leaders: state Rep. Debbie Dingle, state Rep. Kathy Schmaltz, state Sen. Sue Shink, and state Rep. Jennifer Conlin.

Pastor Trish Farrell looked ahead to the congregation’s next steps. “Our gift is that we are a small church with a place for everyone, a bold witness, and a bright future,” she said. While honoring 190 years, the congregation also celebrated the ways North Lake continues to “grow, build relationships, serve others, offer radical welcome, and share God’s love,” according to the church.

As North Lake looks toward its next chapter, the congregation plans to keep its focus on relationships and service, welcoming its neighbors and inviting all.
