Chelsea Girls Track and Field Competes at MHSAA Division 2 State Championship

On Saturday, May 30, the Chelsea Girls Track & Field team traveled to Hamilton, Michigan for the MHSAA Division 2 State Championship meet. The Bulldogs qualified eight individuals for six different events. They competed tenaciously and represented their teammates, coaches, and community with pride.

Strong performances include:

  • Karlie VanRemortel, senior captain, jumped 9′ 9″ in the pole vault to tie her personal best and earn eighteenth place.
  • Teagan Hill, junior, placed sixteenth in the 100 with a time of 12.74.
  • The 4×200 relay team of Melina King (sophomore), Ansley Ahlstrom (freshman), Gabby Ferrell (freshman), and Hill placed just outside of All-State Honors in ninth place with a season best of 1:46.48.
  • The 4×100 relay team of India Barney (senior captain), Ahlstrom, King, and Hill also placed ninth with another season best of 50.42.
  • Barney ran 49.31 in the 300 hurdles to place twenty-sixth.
  • King ran a personal best 25.66 in the 200 to place tenth.

This was the final competition for the Chelsea Bulldogs and brought their season to a close. The coaches are extremely proud of how the team grew and performed this year. While the Bulldogs have a younger squad with many returning next year, they will feel the loss of ten tremendous seniors. They wish India, Ceci, Yian, Addie, Cailyn, Abby K, Lissa, Abby L, Karlie, and Brinna the best of luck as they continue on in their journeys. The holes they are leaving behind are going to be hard to fill.
