The Chelsea Senior Center is looking for adults 60 and older to share their stories with local students from Chelsea schools. Volunteers can sign up for any or all of the intergenerational programs.
Lives Well Lived: Nov. 5
CHS English students in educator Valerie Johnson’s class are studying storytelling this term. Their final project is to work in small groups to interview someone 60+ and make a mini-documentary about that person. The project is inspired by Sky Bergman’s documentary Lives Well Lived.
Students will conduct a friendly interview built around one big question: “What makes a life well lived?” They choose a theme from the answers given and create a three-minute film around that idea. Volunteers are welcome to bring photos or keepsakes to share. Several weeks later, the volunteers and students will gather to watch the finished films.
Fifth Grade Friends: Monthly on Fridays
Starting in November, volunteers will meet with a small group of fifth graders one Friday a month to help with craft projects, tell stories, and play games. Each month brings a new planned activity.
Generations Interviews: Dec. 3 and 7
Volunteers will meet with sixth grade partners at the Senior Center and answer friendly questions in an informal setting. Volunteer for one or both dates.
How to sign up
All three programs are open to adults 60 and older. Volunteers do not need to be CSC members. To sign up or learn more, call the Chelsea Senior Center at 734-475-9242.
