Nathan Peters, orchestra director at Beach Middle School and Chelsea High School, has been named the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District 12 Orchestra Teacher of the Year.
The award honors one orchestra director for outstanding commitment to music education in their community and across the state. Recipients are nominated by their peers and chosen by a vote of MSBOA members statewide. MSBOA District 12 covers Washtenaw and Monroe counties and portions of Wayne County.
Peters is in his 27th year of teaching orchestra in the Chelsea School District. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan in violin and viola performance and performs professionally with the Chelsea Chamber Players and the Ann Arbor Symphony. He has also taught private violin and viola lessons for 35 years.
“His passion, dedication, and unwavering support inspire every student who walks into the orchestra room,” Beach Middle School said on their Facebook page. “We are so proud to have him as part of our Chelsea family.”
Peters will now be considered for the MSBOA State Orchestra Teacher of the Year award, which will be announced in early 2027.
