How to Build a DIY Air Cleaner

With Michigan’s air quality alerts continuing through the weekend, if you don’t have an air purifier, the EPA says that a homemade air cleaner is a cost-effective way to reduce smoke concentration.

The basic design is just a box fan and an air filter, and adding a cardboard cutout boosts effectiveness even further. Check the filter often and replace it if it looks dark or starts to smell like smoke.

The EPA website has a step-by-step guide with a materials list and instructions.
