The Chelsea Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, a program designed to give community members a closer look at how local law enforcement operates.
Applications must be submitted to the Chelsea Police Department by Aug. 21. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Apply online here.
The academy walks participants through the basics of local law enforcement: department organization, patrol operations, investigations, use of force, traffic enforcement, crime scene processing, community policing and firearms safety, among other topics. It runs Thursday evenings from Oct. 1 through Nov. 5, 6 to 8 p.m., though times may shift by an hour depending on the schedule.
The program is open to anyone who lives or owns a business in Chelsea and is 21 or older. Getting in requires clearing a criminal background check, including Live Scan fingerprinting. The Citizens Police Academy is an educational program, not a law enforcement certification course. Participation is voluntary, and the Chelsea Police Department reserves the right to deny or discontinue participation at its discretion.
Apply online or find more information at city-chelsea.org, under Services > Police Department > Citizens Police Academy. Questions: 734-475-9122, ext. 3.
