Chelsea High School graduate Brian Tillman is heading to the Michigan Open Championship, set to take place June 8-11 in Bellaire, Michigan, after earning a spot in the field through a qualifying round on May 13 at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
Tillman made his mark locally as a four-year starter on the Chelsea boys golf team. His high school career culminated in a standout senior season, where he captured an individual MHSAA Division 2 state championship, the first state golf title in Chelsea High School history.
Following graduation, Tillman took his game to the collegiate level at Ferris State University, where he is studying construction management and competing on the men’s golf team.
The Michigan Open, one of the premier golf tournaments in the state, has been played since 1916 and draws a field of 156 professional and amateur golfers. The championship is held at Shanty Creek Resort’s Cedar River Course in Bellaire, Michigan, an 18-hole championship layout designed by PGA Tour champion and architect Tom Weiskopf.
